it is very possible to become a good music reader without a teacher however you will need lots of practice and patience.

You might want to look into downloading some software from the internet to help you.

i personaly think that you need someone there to give you the basics of readig music. books and the internet help but theres nothing like having someone there in person explanining to you what you need to figure out and teaching you, you also grow confidance if you have someone there who knows.

good luck

I dont ever think that you can learn something with out help but if you really want to do it without a teacher and have someone show you the basics, or you check out a book on music you can. the books are confusing if youve never read music before. have fun

Here's the deal Frankie-It is quite possible that you could learn just fine on your own...But with the help of a teacher, or someone who has more experience in this field than you do, you will be able to speed up the process. Sometimes slow processes can be frustrating. Think of it this way, if your friend decided he wanted to start playing the instrument that you have been playing for years, would it be easier for him to sit down by himself and figure it all out on his own? or sit down with you and let you tell him everything to your knowledge about that instrument?

Feed my mind.

well you can do it by yourself, but make sure you get books to show you how; dont just sit down and expect yourself to just pick up on it. i really advise using a piano- that way you have the largest range of notes, and both a treble cleff and a bass cleff. i actually taught myself to read music through a book when i was six, and it took me a couple months. i advise havin someone who knows how to just in case you have any questions about all the signs such as stacato, a fermata, or an accidental. good luck, rock on!

My advice is play an instrument and music reading becomes natural. That's how i learnt. Also remember the rhymes. eg Elephants Great Big Dirty Feet
