What does it mean if there is a big seven, a little seven, and what does it mean if there is a big 2 next to a letter?

It sounds like you are referring to chord symbols above the staff. If so, the numbers 2 and 7 (size irrelevant) refer to the interval above the root of the chord, which is the letter name. Hence, C2 means that C is the root of the chord, and in this case, D which is a second above C should be included in the chord. In the case of C7, B flat, which is a 7th above C would be included in the chord. B, B flat and B double flat are all a 7th above C. Which one is to be used is indicated in the chord symbol, but that is a topic for another discussion. normanortiz@ipracticemore.com
