what does an occasional small triangle along- side a note mean? Also what is the meaning of a tiny circle alongside a note?

Your question is a bit misleading since I have not seen these symbols next to notes on the staff. I am guessing that you are referring to the triangle and circle (like fahrenheit degree sign) occurring next to an Arabic letter name above the staff. If so, the triangle denotes the use of a major seventh chord, and the degree sign denotes a diminished chord. www.ipracticemore.com
