An easy way of figuring what the key signatures are and the number of sharps and flats is by learning the "circle of fifths." The key of C has no sharps or flats. By going up five whole steps (C,D,E,F,G) the key of G has one sharp. From the key of G going up five whole steps (G,A,B,C,D) to the key of D has two sharps and so on. If you are figuring out flats, you have to go DOWN five whole steps. Again, the key of C has no sharps and flats. From the key of C, you would go down five whole steps (C,B,A,G,F) to the key of F which has one flat. From the key of F, you would go down five whole steps from there (F,E,D,C,Bb) and you would be in the key of Bb which has two flats.
You would be much better off to find a diagram of this explanation!! It is much easier to understand visually.
