Sixteenth notes can be counted as "1 e and a" If you take the "e" out, then you have the correct way to count the rhythm.

The way to look at rhythms like that is to picture them as four sixteenth notes and then determine which of the four sixteenth notes has been removed. With this particular rhythm, the second sixteenth note has been removed, therefore, the eighth note will have the same note duration as the two sixteenth notes combined. This is probably very confusing, and it is hard to teach this on a forum where the rhythm can't be heard. The best way to figure out rhythms is to count them out, just like you sound out a new word that you are trying to learn how to pronounce. Good luck and I hope this helps!

The rhythm you asked about sounds like the word "grasshopper". The opposite rhythm, two sixteenths and an eighth, sounds like "bubblegum".

The sequence is known as the "flatus" in classical music. You should fart three beats before continuing.
