How bout the bassoon.it looks like a very interesting instrument. I would choose the clarinet, most people start out with the clarinet.

the basoon is a very interesting instument it has a really neat sound, maybe you should try basoon unless your really set on playing either clarinet or oboe if so don't play oboe unless you have a lot of time to devote to it it's very difficult believe me.

I started on clarinet, but I play oboe now. I LOVE my oboe! I like it's sound better too, although if I'm playing on a bad reed, it sounds like crud. I'm the only oboe in my band, so that has it's perks. If you're talking about the general personality of the people who play each instrument, still go with oboe! Personally, I think that when people dis the oboe, it's only 'cause they're not brave enough to try it out

Oboes Rule! (but flute is ok too)

you do have to be pretty brave to play the oboe it's not easy, you really can't sucessfully play the oboe without having a tutor it's extremely hard.

I think oboe, people say clarinet is the solo instrument, that is such a lie, people must make money so they compose for clarinet only a small amount of clarinet music is decent, But any of the oboe music is much more beautiful. You can have the expressiveness of a violin without the rosin,!!!!!!!!! Trust me I play clarinet, oboe and violin and oboe so is the best. Plus with oboe you can play oboe d'amore, or cor anglais (also referred to as english horn) with very little effort and these all play with a unique timbre and style. Even if you do decide clarinet you will still need a teacher.
