Also, there is a Mozart oboe concerto. And concertos by many other composers, which are well listened to and appreciated by people who actually know anything about music.

While I disagree that the clrinet is a solo instrument and the oboe is not, neither is the clarinet easy to play nor an "occasional" instrument. Tone quality on clarinet is very critical and takes almost as much effort as the oboe. Oboe takes more. Clarinet professional are as engeged as oboe pros, and there are more of them when you consider that a standard orchestra will have 3 to 6 clarinets and only 2 oboes. A band may have as many as 24 clarinets and still only have 2 oboes. What's the definition of a minor 2nd? 2 oboes playing the same note. How do you get 2 oboes to play the same note? Shoot one.
Why do clarinets put their horncase on the dash of the car? So they can park in handicap zone.

Oboe is as solo instrument as you can get. It has a beutiful sound that I personally think sounds best on melancholic music.
Clarinets, well, comparing a clarinet to an oboe is like comparing plastic to porcelain.

the oboe is WAY better than the clarient.
the clarinet sounds like the heart monitor at a hospital when someone dies!
it can't ecpress any emotions other than flat out BORED!
and it is so easy!! i get sick of the clarients whining in my band when they barely have to do ANY work at all!! THE MOUTH PIECE IS EVEN MADE TO FIT THEIR MOUTH!!!
Look it up, the oboe is the ONLY instrument than is physically painful to play..it is a challenge and is very rewarding, unlike the boring, easy clarinet.

to all the clarinets out there...the hoboe joke is SO old!

i like the oboe better.

the best name for a clarinet is clariNUT!
plus, most clarient players are so preppy and complain about EVERYTHING!!

ok whoever wrote this has no where to talk. if you dont play it you cant judge it. no band jokes if your not in band. especially not bad ones. im an oboe player and a clarinet player. they both are great instruments. i personally like the oboe better. it was more of a challenge and sounds more unique. plus i get all the solos cause theres only one of me. so yeah if you cant play you have no room to talk. thanks.

Only an Oboe fanatic would think the oboe has a better sound than clarinet. I don't play either one so I'm pretty objective about it. The clarinet has a MUCH mellower tone quality than the nasal sounding Oboe. "What's the best way to get 2 oboe to play the same note?" Shoot one! "What's an Oboe good for?" Setting a Bassoon on fire.

How bout the bassoon.it looks like a very interesting instrument. I would choose the clarinet, most people start out with the clarinet.
