Greetings:

I'm a 62 year-old guy with a totally insane desire to pick up the horn again, which I last played at age 17. I know; it's crazy to even think about what this involves (building an emboucher), but I have a burning desire to do this. I'm musically literate, played the flute for years, but just don't like the sound of that instrument. The trumpet is calling to me.
Okay, maybe I just need to get this out of my system, but I need some feedback. I walked into a music store a couple years ago,m picked a horn, took it in the back room and was able to get a few notes, played a blues riff. I still remember all the fingerings.
What do you think? Am I out of my mind to even think about playing again? Would appreciate any responses.

Many thanks,
bixntram

I think it's great! Go for it, and good luck.

I am a fragment of my imagination

Follow your dreams - go for it. Can't think of a better way to start 2007.

It's more common than you think to return to an instrument, or start a new one. Most music teachers have a lag in the age of private students from kids of 5 or 6 to age 21 or so, then other things like a career and raising a family take over- the student age range starts again in the mid 50's.
I have two students in their 60's at the moment, and one 71.
Go for it!
