Hello, I've just received my violin for Christmas , with educational DVD, however the DVD just tells you how to look after it and stand, the complete basics, my problem is what to do next, how do I learn to make pleasant music from it, does anyone know if there is a DVD out there that covers that? I can't even read music, I have never played a musical instrument before etc so I need real basic help. Any constructive advice is gratefully received. Thank you

Your best bet is to get a private teacher, but if that is not possible I would suggest buying a lesson book like Essential Elements 2000. You can get them at your local music store. The Essential Elements books come with DVD's that show you the basics plus also how to get the first few notes to get you started.
