I'm learning a Christmas song on the piano called Promises to Keep by Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Somewhere in there there's a note with a parenthesis around it

fc(f)c

and I was wondering what that meant. I haven't been able to find it anywhere online.

For the second verse, maybe?

I thought that, but if it's only for the second verse, then what would be played for the first verse?

If it is for a second verse then my guess is that the other verse has a two syllable word in that spot instead of just a one syllable word. For example, "High" in the first verse and "High-er" in the second. The note in parenthesis could mean that "High-er" should be played as two eigth notes with the c on the first syllable and the f on the second.

Honestly, I have no clue, but that would be my educated guess. LOL
