What is the difference between beat, rhythm, and melody?

Beat is indicated by the time signature that specifies how many beats in the measure. Beat is the pulse. For example, in 4/4 time, there are 4 beats/pulses in each measure.

Rhtyhm is the organization of those beats. For example, Ta Ta Ti-Ti Ta, or 1 2 3+(and) 4.

Melody is what those rhtyhms make. "Row, row, row your boat, gently down the stream" is a melody made from pitches and rhtyhms. The rhythm in 4/4 time would be counted as 1 2 3+ 4, 1+ 2+ 34 or quarter-note (1) quarter-note(2), eighth-note eighth-note (3+),quarter-note (4), etc.

How do you count 16th notes in 6/8 time. i can never figure it out.
