| posted: 9/28/2005 at 6:48:40 PM ET okay, so on the time signature,say 6/8, *if there was no time signature on the staff, i can tell how many beats there are in one measure but i dont know how to count or figure out the bottom number. please help me cause my homework is due in 15 minutes. 15 minutes

The top number of the time signature tells you how many beats there are in each measure, and the bottom number tells you what kind of note gets the beat. So, 6/8 time, 6 eighth notes makes up one measure.
