I write songs and record using a keyboard, guitars and MIDI. Trouble is, I have had no formal musical eduacation, can't read music and find it extremely difficult arranging the backings for my songs. Does anyone know how or where to go to learn things like this? I know Nik Kershaw has a buddy who went to music college, but I can't afford to take a few years out of work to do that. Any hints and tips would be gratefully received.

Do you have any friends who read music who can help? I have the same problem. Most of the people I know are either too busy, or not interested. Check out google under the heading arranging music. I saw some sites that might be of some help. I didn't go on any yet because I'm on my way out, but I'm going to check it out later tonight. Good luck with your music, Don

I don't think it is necessary to go to college to get music education. I take music lessons once a week for a 1/2 hour. From this small commitment I am learning how to write down and arrange my own music. It is amazing what you can do when you have the right teacher.
Before I started taking music lessons 18 months ago, I just ignored all the music that was in my head. Now I don't have to.

Way to go toonz! you sound more confident each time you post a reply, and more knowledgeable as well. I am just about ready to publish my first peice of music, as soon as I polish it up a bit. This forum is a real confidence builder. It's full of incentive laden responses from so many different people. Most of the information I pass along ,I find by researching the internet, and consequently, I learn something new myself.

Hi Pete, yeah, That's the song I'll be sending you via email. When the Spirit comes down, He will dwell in the hearts and the minds and the souls of the children of God.

I'm looking foward to it.
We sing our gospel song at assembly tomorrow for the first time as a complete student body, rather than individual classes.
