I absolutely HATE music, but my school is making me take a music class. I can't stand listening to music or talking about it. Whenever I hear music I feel like crap. What should I do to get through this class? It is ruining my life. They make me listen to music every day and it lowers my self-esteem. Please advise as to what I can do to finish up this class without compromising my loathing for music.

I don't see how you can not like music...there has got to be some kind of music you like. You don't even listen to the radio? I think that you may just have to suffer through this class and know that it will be over eventually.

No, I keep my radio off at all times. The only time I have to listen to music is like when I go in a store or something and they're playing it. Otherwise, I try to avoid music like the plague.

In order to survive your music class you are going to have to use your imagination. You are going to have to think up ways to at least make it entertaining for you.
It may be bothersome to you but keep in mind that there are many worse things in life than having to take a class you don't like. It wont, and I assure you this, "ruin your life".
A little dramatic don't you think?
Try not to focus so much on the fact that you don't want to be in that class. Think of it in terms of an easy grade. I am sure you have a lot of other classes that are much more demanding than that one. Find someone in the class who is actually enjoying themselves and ask them for help.
You know, I don't like crowded places but I try to overlook that when I am at a place like Disneyland for example because I don't get to go there that often and I don't want my anxiety level to get to a point where I can't enjoy myself. I have to make a concious effort to look beyond all the people and have a good time with my kids.
Once you have your compulsory music class under your belt, you probably wont have to take any more against your will. Don't fail this class or you will be forced to take it over again. Something tells me you wouldn't want to do that.
I feel kinda bad for you because music is one of the things I turn to often whenever I need to be uplifted or feel better.
I don't know how you survive day to day. Music is everywhere. At the mall, on TV, in the movies, at church. It is everywhere you turn. Is it possible for someone who doesn't like music to LEARN to like it? If it were I would suggest that. But I suppose that is easier said than done. All you can really do is focus on the end result. Finish your class and it will be done with.
Good luck.

Look at it this way- the only reason people all over the world spend billions of dollars every minute, and have done for the period recorded music has been available, is because music makes them feel GOOD.
I suggest that rather than looking at the symptom, you should be looking at the cause of the disease.
What music your parents listen to is a good place to start, for example, or a disinterested teacher.

Music doesnt make me feel "good" - it makes me feel like garbage. And my parents listen to Led Zepplin.

I think that it is all part of all-round education. I think you should learn the basics of the music, but not to continue further, if you don't like it. Concentrate on your own interests.

To continue a little bit, I see it's tough to live when keeps hearing music. When it comes to me, classical music is all that matters to me! Still, for example, I don't like cars at all. Yet how can I avoid being around them all the time? You just have to learn to live with the fact that world is filled with music.
