Excellent description. It immediately causes me to ask myself if there is a connection between musical composition and say, english composition.
An amazing learning tool while studying electronics was discovering that my education in mechanics could be used to help understand electronics. For example: Diodes,(check-valves), transistors, (pressure-regulators)these comparison's perform basically the same function's, and the "beat" goes on. Is there such a connection between musical composition and some other well known discipline that we may have already learned about?
While reading one of the other post's asking the question, "have you ever found yourself humming to the sound that a fridge or hair drier makes" the answer is "yes" while on fire watch duty in mechanical equipment rooms I decided to experiment from things I had learned in class regarding elctrical equipment generating a 60 cycle hum which adds up to a "C" note. While practicing the trumpet I would go from one piece of equipment to another trying to harmonize with the sound it made. In most cases we could make some sort of music together. At any rate I learned something about "musical language" I think.
Thank you for your definition of "What is music?" MUSIC IS A LANGUAGE, I hope I am around long enough to master a little piece of it...

Respectfully, Jim Weatherbie
