I bought an online program for about $80 and within about 2 months (with very little practice time 'cause I have two small kids who never leave me alone) I was able to read the notes and play the piano with two hands. It is really amazing! There are lots of those lessons out there, so I'm sure you could probably find one for the guitar. If you can afford a real teacher than I say go for it because I'm sure having someone's support is a lot more helpful. If you can't then try to find one online. For the money I paid, I will be able to play some pretty challenging pieces, I get to go at my own pace, I can email questions to the teacher any time. I highly recommend this. It has given me so much confidence and has made me so happy. I have always wanted to play the piano, and wished my parents had sent me for lessons when I was a kid. Now, I have the printed lessons so I can teach my kids myself.
Don't give up. Music really enriches your mind and creating it yourself gives you a great natural high!
