Can anyone suggest a good textbook or teaching guide for this age group? It will have to primarily be an overview as I will only have 18 class sessions with each student. Thanks!

I apologize for sounding so clueless...I'm only teaching for one term and there is not a curriculum in place for general Music Appreciation. I haven't taught this before, so I'm shopping around for the best book.

Write your lesson plan according to composers and time line no book required ..you are the book "S"

Registered: 10/23/2004 | posted: 10/25/2004 at 11:25:05 PM ET Thank you for the encouragement and inspiration! I am a musician and a long-time substitute teacher, but this will be the first time I will have my "own" classes. I'm thrilled but nervous. Most teacher friends have told me to do what you did: teach from my heart and experience and not from a book; but the school district seemed interested in purchasing some sort of textbook. I also found an interesting website called "Essentials of Music" that has nice information on musical eras, biographical sketches, and good listening examples. Thanks again for your post!
