What does it mean when notes are on top of other notes? Like a quarter note that starts at D and then a G on top of the D, and then finally a B on top of the G. Can someone help me???

Notes on top of each other mean: play simultaneously (all of them AT THE SAME TIME---it's a chord!

Or a duet some instruments play one note some the other. in band
