Registered: 5/27/2004 | posted: 5/27/2004 at 3:30:35 PM ET well I have been playing flute for 4 years now and have been interested in jazz band. My director said its a good idea to play tenor sax but i need to know if the transition is hard or if i should play something else? flutetenor

Registered: 5/26/2004 | posted: 5/28/2004 at 3:40:11 PM ET It's pretty easy When I was in college we had several flute players who played sax in jazz band. The fingering are very similar. Just have to use a different embouchure.

Registered: 7/28/2004 | posted: 7/29/2004 at 12:17:54 AM ET And you will need to know that when you are asked to play scales, flute is a "C" pitched instrument, while Saxes are Bb & Eb, meaning you will have to play a different scale. Like if the director calls out C Major, you'll be playing another scale. Unless of course you find an old "C Melody" sax...and these are not used in bands these days...Good luck!
