What brass instrument can also be used in a woodwind ensemble? Why?

The saxophone is the only instrument made of brass but is yet a woodwind. However, I personally would never add a saxophone to such an ensemble unless doing something drastically nouveau or avant garde. The only thing in common between woodwinds and brass is that they require air to operate.

I am no expert...but I have frequently read that because the saxophone uses a reed....it comes under 'woodwind'

French horn is a part of a woodwind emsemble, although it is a brass instrument.
