I understand beats, and how to play all the different notes- but how do i know what string to hit on my bass? Theres like 6 lines in this book of mine, but yet my bass has 4 strings.. heh.

They represent the notes to be played. check out this page. it should give you a clue as to what to play - assuming that you know note names and dont just read tablature. if u dont know note names - look it up on google or something, its not too difficult to learn. hope i helped.
