My guitar teacher keeps telling me the are 2 bars before the last two notes of a song i'm trying to play - thats wonderful but what on earth does it mean?

My obvious suggestion would be that you should have ASKED your teacher when he told you!

Anyway, a bar often is used as another name for a measure.

And it's possible he might have been talking about a double barline, and barlines are just the lines separating the measures (aka bars)

Anyway, ask him!
