Viola is larger and has a deeper sound than a violin. Taciturn Registered User Registered: 8/3/2003 posted: 4/11/2004 at 5:31:30 PM ET The violin's strings from lowest pitched to highest pitched are G, D, A, E, and it reads the treble clef. The viola's strings from lowest to highest are C, G, D, A, and it reads the alto clef. And again, like the previous person said, the viola is a little larger than the violin, and is considered one of the lower strings (grouped with cellos and basses) while violins are considered upper stringed instruments. Violas and cellos have the same strings, the viola's are just an octave higher. Violins and upright basses have the same strings, just in the opposite order, and the bass is of course much deeper.
