| posted: 1/17/2004 at 1:09:17 AM ET Pick up your sticks and with a firm wrist and place them on your thumb and index finger. For every stroke you should get two bounces. Practice that for a while and when you get comfortable. It's called a loose rebound, practice with one hand first and then the other. Then begin to alternate strokes and gradually increase tempo as you get more comfortable and consistent with what your doing. Then close in the other three fingers around the stick once you can consistently play a role. Soon enough you will get a good roll down. I don't know if you can read music but on a G Cleff find where middle A would be and that represents a hit on the snaredrum. It's going to look like a bunch of 16th notes and underneath you will see something that looks like RRLL RRLL RRLL in each measure, thats when they will want to see you do a roll.

Registered: 5/3/2004 | posted: 5/3/2004 at 7:20:38 PM ET Basically what you want to do is stroke out each hit... What the first replier to this post said, you need two bounces on each stick... Go slow, and gradually pick up speed. You'll get it.

You have to bounce the sticks slow at first then pick up the speed. It gets easier the more you practice. Hey I'm not even a drummer and I know how to do a drum roll.
